MISSION AND OBJECTIVES_   SALIS has framed its objectives by considering and accommodating the aspirations of its members particularly young and upcoming library professionals. The objectives are framed after considerable deliberations in appropriate forums. They are practicable, executable and achievable. The execution of these objectives are reviewed periodically in its Annual General Body(AGB) meetings. The President is reviewing the status of implementation of these objectives chapter wise with the office bearers of the respective chapters. Know More...

Madras Library Asssociation

The library movement in the former Madras Presidency originated as part of the national movement for political freedom and social development. The Indian National Congress spearheaded the movement for Swaraj and its annual conferences provided a platform for other organisations with national goals to hold their meetings.

The fifth All India Library Conference was held in Madras, along with the Congress session, during the last week of December 1927.

As a followup to the deliberations of this conference, through the initiative of Mr. K.V. Krishnanswamy Aiyar and Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Madras Library Association (MALA) was founded on 31st January 1928.

In December 1946, the first conference of Slovenian librarians was organised in Ljubljana and the initiative committee for establishment of the professional association was founded. The members of the initiative committee were: Dušan Ludvik, dr. Melitta Pivec-Stele and Vasilij Melik. On 21 December 1947, the founding meeting of the Slovenian Librarians' Association was held at the National and University Library. The first Chairman was dr.
